Red Red Meat
Although they resided on Seattle's SubPop Records,
RRM are anything but grunge. Robert Johnson meets Sonic Youth on
cough syrup is more like it. Singer Tim Rutili's expressive voice
bleeds pain and ache. With no aspiration of stardom, the
critically-acclaimed RRM is just happy to release the alternately
distorted and hauntingly stripped albums "Jimmywine Majestic" and
"Bunny Gets Paid." RRM's final SubPop CD, "There's a Star Above
the Manger Tonight" shows the band's more experimental side.
RRM has splintered into several different but connected projects.
Loftus is RRM plus Rex. Califone, a whole lotta tape loops and other wack
stuff, has also just released an album on the Flydaddy label. oRSo's self-
titled debut recording, yet another RRM-associated project, is now out
on Perishable Records.
